Have you ever found yourself  facing a mountain that left you wondering how you will overcome it? Well, me too! In fact, I have found myself facing many giants that are, at first, scary, intimidating, and quite overwhelming for my human mind to comprehend and figure out. Thankfully, we don’t have to do this on our own. You see, life isn’t perfect; it's far from it which is why we go through mountains and valleys and have our ups and downs throughout various seasons. We know by Genesis 8:22 that in some seasons we harvest and in some seasons we

plant. Growing pains are just that...down right painful! The seasons that develop growth within us are uncomfortable and difficult, but guess what? God is such a good father that He allows us to give those burdens, that are causing us such difficulty, to Him. He takes care of it while we grow and become the person He has in mind.
God never, ever brings us to something and makes us walk through it alone. Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
That’s right! Read it again and let it soak into your spirit. Be encouraged because God never makes us walk through the fire alone.
The story of the three men from Daniel 3 who were thrown into the fiery furnace is a great description of what happens spiritually when we have a trial. He is there with us just as He was in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
And let’s not forget...the men came out of the fire totally unscathed or harmed, AND they were promoted (Dan. 3:30).

Psalms 55:22 tells us not only what to do in situations that have us walking through fire, but it also tells us what God is going to do in return. This verse has gotten me through and is currently getting me through difficult times. If we give, to God, the burden, trial, mountain, illness, financial struggle, job hassle, heartache or whatever you are facing today, He will sustain you!
I love words and I love to take specific words in scripture and delve into what they really mean. A lot of times, we may find that one simple word has such a bigger meaning than what we expected or thought. Let's look at the word sustain a little closer, and I believe you will be just as encouraged and hyped as I was!!

The Webster’s Dictionary actually gives many meanings for “sustain,” but I am going to focus on just the ones that pertain to this verse. With these definitions, this verse becomes so much more powerful.
  1. “To bear a burden” This definition goes along with the verse perfectly. A burden is anything we have to bear for a period of time. It's a heavy load that may make our spirit or even our physical body weak, but when Jesus takes it for us, we are able to breath and rest easier.
  2. “To undergo, experience, or suffer; endure without giving way or yielding” This one makes me appreciate the love of God even more because it shows that He will suffer for us as Jesus already has on the cross. When we give or release our mountain to God, He experiences it for us, and the end of this definition says [He] won’t give way to the affliction; therefore, we cannot fail or fall, just as this verse says in the Amplified version. Wow! If that doesn’t give you more confidence, I don’t know what will.
  3. “To keep (a person, the mind, the spirit) from giving way, as under trial or affliction” This one speaks volumes to me because with trials comes fear which can rob us of our rest, peace and make us think negative thoughts. BUT, according to this definition,  if God is sustaining us, He keeps our mind and spirit!! This means we can keep our peace while going through the fire. We can rest well during the endurance of the trial. We can stay positive when everything around us is going wrong. Because we have given our circumstance to the Lord, He takes it for us, AND he keeps us in perfect peace. This is powerful stuff that makes trials and tribulation less intimidating.
  4. “To supply with food , drink, and other necessities of life” This definition pertains to the physical sustaining God does when we release our burdens to Him. He doesn’t only take care of our spiritual needs, but He sustains us by making sure we have our physical, everyday needs met and provided for us. This reminds me of Matthew 6:25-27- “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?  Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (NLT version)
He doesn’t only take our burdens for us, but he provides what we need as we go through the trial. This is so comforting for me, and I hope you are feeling more encouraged about your situation as well. Sometimes, we ask ourselves, “How will we pay that bill?” or “How will I provide for my family?” I can tell you how!! “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you” or provide for you and your family!!

It is inevitable that we will, at times, face many giants that seem impossible. But it is also certain that we have a big God who takes it all for us while sustaining and seeing us through the battle.

Be encouraged today! If you are facing something that has you overwhelmed with fear of the future, release it to God, and He won’t let you fail or fall!
Make the choice to release it to him so that you can gain back your peace while being sustained by the Almighty who loves you enough to take on a giant and give you what you need at the same time.
